A Definition

An area for living walkably is where you can get a loaf of bread without getting in your car or getting hit by one.

The purpose of this blog is to talk about that without getting in your face.

Hey Ivan, Nice job with the research and the blog site - thanks I know to Susan with that. Who knows where this might lead, but it seems you've had a coupla responses from real walkable/bikable types already. As you know, my current lifestyle precludes the possibility of participating much in such an ideal vision, but I have to admit that there is a part of me that dreams of slowing things down to the pace of footsteps, though when I think of this I tend to dream of some kind of spiritual mendicacy. THAT fantasy however doesn't play much on my movie screen these days. The other walkability wonderment for me is the simple get-away, or vacation, consisting of SLOW time, minimal-to-no sight seeing, walking to beach and food, or mineral springs and food, etc. Throw in a walkably close cinema and a natural food store and I'm set for a brief period of out-of-routine regeneration. The larger picture eludes me for now, but I support the concept, for all the right reasons, I'm sure!
Love and see ya soon,

Nice piece. I too live in a town where I have to walk although I would prefer there was a bus service because I have to depend upon others.
However I love walking in the desert and often are over in the Jornado every week walking several miles each time, like today we worked about six months picking up carnelians.

I met we walked six miles, not six months as at my age walking for six months would probably kill me.
